Limited edition giclée print ![]() ![]() All Soul’s was founded by Henry Chichele in 1437 as a memorial to Henry V and the soldiers who died in his wars in France. Originally designed to train clergy and ecclesiastical lawyers, it still has only fellows and no undergraduates. The impressive façade onto The High is a range of two-storeyed buildings which form the oldest surviving part of the college. On the battlemented Gate Tower in the centre are statues of Henry V and Archbishop Chichele by the sculptor John Massingham. These are copies of the originals which are housed in the former Buttery under the Chapel. Above these is a sculpture of the Resurrection installed in 1940. A row of grotesque sculptures lines the string course below the crenellated parapet. The building on the right is the Warden’s House, built in 1704 in Palladian style and refurbished in the 19th century. Copyright (c) Virtual Archive 2008 All rights reserved
