The Meadow Building No.2 Content for id "#architecture" Goes Here
Limited edition giclée print ![]() ![]() Christ Church was founded by King Henry VIII although the project had earlier been started by Cardinal Wolsey. It holds the unique dual role as a college of the university and also the cathedral of the diocese of Oxford. It is built on the original site of St Frideswide's Priory The college residential buildings were designed and built by Sir Thomas Deane in the second half of the 19th century. The style is Venetian Gothic, with Venetian balconies and doors on the south side and a great tower marking the centre of the building. The bands of coloured stone are covered in the summer by Virginia Creeper. The building is magnificently placed looking out across Christ Church Meadow and the formal tree-lined Broad Walk which was laid out in the 17th century.
