CHRIST CHURCH , OXFORD
The Cathedral Spire Limited edition giclée print ![]() ![]() Christ Church was founded by King Henry VIII although the project had earlier been started by Cardinal Wolsey. It holds the unique dual role as a college of the university and also the cathedral of the diocese of Oxford. It is built on the original site of St Frideswide's Priory. It is thought that the present church, which is built in a light honey coloured Cotswold Stone, was begun in the 1150‘s but the central tower and spire date from the 13th century. It is one of Oxford’s first ‘dreaming spires‘ and one of the first spires in England to be built of stone. Reproduced by permission of the governing body of
