KEBLE COLLEGE, OXFORD Content for id "#architecture" Goes Here
Limited edition giclée print ![]() ![]() Keble College is named after John Keble who was one of the leaders of the Oxford Movement. He died four years before the college was founded in 1870. The architect was William Butterfield who had developed a Gothic Revival style using polychromatic brick which had become his trademark. By using brick, he departed from the Oxford tradition of building with stone. Pusey Quad is named after Edward Bouverie Pusey who was a colleague of John Keble. The residential ranges have a horizontal emphasis contrasting with tall chimneys and gables with a chequered decoration of brick and stone. The line of buildings from the Main Gate to the Lodgings was not completed as funds ran out so there is no building to the north of the Lodgings. This, however, has the advantage of making the Quad lighter!
